My recent Projects

Everyone watched me work on this cowl scarf. Well it is finally done. Made it as a gift so do not want to say who it is for as yet. My knitting buddies know who it is.
Also, after I got done, did another hat and this one is for me. Found this yarn at a shop up in Portland. It is self striping but also gives it a fair isle effect. So I knitted a couple of rows of a solid color and then the multi color one. Right now knitting hats is my "karma" for the next couple of weeks. Have about 3 to do and then I'll knit myself another hat.
If anyone wants the pattern for the cowl scarf, I'll make some copies and bring them in next week.

Enjoy.

Another Set of Name #'s

It is just amazing to me how a group of ladies can have similar names. Have explained before about our group having 3 Mary Ann's/Maryan's. We know them as #1, #2 and #3.

Well we now have 2 Liz's. And we even are known as "Lizzie" to our families and close friends and detest being called Beth. Like don't even go there.

During today's sessions we all talked and said how confusing will this be, #1, #2, #3 and the Maryan's/Mary Ann's and/or Liz's won't know who we are referring to.

So it seems like we will start referencing M1, M2, M3 and then L1 and L2.

I know this sounds like such a stupid post but life is fun and how many times in a group of women who did not know each other before and came together with a common interest such as knitting something like thing would happen.

Sock knitting is beginning to hit full steam. Bev is being asked to help with teaching a sock class again. You go Bev, you did a great job last time.

Everyone have a good week and see you next Thursday.

Kntting for the Holidays

Not sure how many of us are knitting for the holidays, but it sure seems as if some of our works in progress (WIP) are kind of being put to the side as we all start to realize if we want to do some knitting for families/friends for the holidays, we need to get rolling.

Right now, there are some good sales going on at Joann's and Michaels. Remember your coupons and also make note, you cannot use your coupons at Michael's on books. Apparentley they used to do this but not anymore. Also remember that Beverly's will honor sale coupons from J and M's as well.

Getting into my shawl and also have decided to get into socks. Very interesting to say the least. See everyone on Thursday and I'll remember to bring my camera.

Knitting on Tuesday Evening

Well everyone, I went over and knitted with the Auburn Courthouse ladies on Tuesday evening. What a nice group of people. The coffee shop is nice but was very warm.

It was nice having a glass of wine and a warm cup of Tomato/Cheese Soup that was great.

Interestly, met a lady knitting there who was our server at the annual Crab Feed we attend each year over at the fairgrounds. You know what they say about the six degrees of separation. Small world.

Anyway, mentioned to them about us knitting over at Auburn Needleworks' on Thursday. So we may have a couple of new people dropping in to knit with us.

Projects in the Works

Last week Roberta joined us after being gone for about 6 weeks. She was globe trotting over in France and Italy. She shared a couple of her experiences with us and sounds like she had a good visit. She even visited with some ladies she met over in France last year.

We had quite a few new people join us last week. Seems as word is getting out about us and we are enjoying the new knitters and checking out what they are working on and/or have finished. One of the ladies who showed up last week, Daniella, told us about the Tuesday night knit group who meet over at the Courthouse Coffee shop in town. I have been telling her for months that I was going to drop in. Decided tonight I will do this. In checking our their site on Ravelry they have quite a few knitters who join them on Tuesday evening. Looking forward to getting together with them tonight.

Maryan #2 (remember we have 3 Mary Ann's in our group, so we have numbered them) is getting ready for her Christmas craft show. She participates with others up in Cool, CA. Their craft faire is Saturday, November 7th. I'll get the hours from her this week and put that out for everyone to see.

I'm finishing up the hat for Jason. Actually finished it, but then realized it was too big. Forgot about it stretching a bit with doing a rib in it. Just about finished with that and then I am going to begin working on a sweater. Maryan and I both have this same sweater pattern that we both like. It is always fun to work on a similar project as someone else so you can compare notes and stuff. Roberta, is reworking her Raglan sweater. Believe she will be glad when she is done with this one. She is off to Michigan to visit her Mom so she won't be with us for a couple of weeks.
Cynthia is working on a special project, Bev is working on Socks and Barb finished the biggest slippers we all ever saw.

Happy knitting everyone and see ya on Thursday.

Projects Completed and Fall in the Air

Well, Fall is definitely showing up around our necks of the woods. Crisp cool mornings, warm days and cooler evenings. As we get into the fall the holidays are soon upon us, with this occurrence knitters start getting ready for what they want to make for loved ones, friends or themselves.

Now you must understand a couple of the knitter's in our group don't make gifts for others, because when they have done so in the past it is amazing what uses become of their hard work. To protect the innocent and what they have said, we'll let this go unsaid. However, other knitters in the group are fortunate enough to knit gifts and have them greatly appreciated.

Right now the group is finishing up projects they have made for themselves. Cynthia joined our group during the late summer. I met her from doing a crochet edging for a beautiful shawl she made for her daughter. It was one of her first projects and she did a really great job. It was pretty involved as it required her doing cables, which means, you put so many stitches on a temporary holder and either hold the stitches to the back or the front, knit a couple of stitches and then go back to the temporary holder and knit those stitches. It is a little frightening the first couple of times you do this but then you say to yourself, not bad and I can do that!!! I didn't get a pictures of that shawl but I will have Cynthia bring it in. She recently completed a summer top and so I am going to include that project.

Then we have our sock lady aka Bev. She made a beautiful shawl called "The Peace Shawl" which she bought into to show us last week. We all ooh and aahed and Lisa the owner of Auburn Needlework's liked it so much, she is going to order the pattern for sale at her shop. It was quite busy last Thursday as many who come on Friday, came on Thursday as the resident teacher (Nancy) was not able to make Friday and came in on Thursday.

So enjoy the pictures and I will get us caught up for this week in a couple of days.

Additionally, Carolyn our knitting friend who has not been with us for a couple of months as she was doing Chemo treatments rejoined us last week. It is so nice to have her back. She looks good is getting back into the knitting groove as well. Welcome back Carolyn, you were missed.

You got the Picture Taker

Well a lot of you know, I avoid the camera and would rather be on the other side taking pictures of you and your projects. I finished 2 projects, 1 new scarf and 1 a scarf pattern where I increased the pattern to have it come out as a shawl. Enjoy.

And Our Newest Member

Well, you know I can't go without including out newest member who joined us today. We even got Chloe to model one of the fingerless gloves that Barb knitted. You can tell she was over joyed doing this, haha

We have a couple of knitters either out of state and/or country. One is helping out her daughter whose husband had a heart transplant, successful and he sounds like he is doing good. Another is doing her annual trip to France. With the summer winding down, we should begin seeing more of our knitters joining us again.

Everyone, have a wonderful Labor Day weekend and see you next week.

Where We Knit

Each Thursday, a group of us meet over at our Local Yarn Shop in town. Lisa the owner of Auburn Needlework's allows us to take over a section in her shop. Want to share some pictures of her shop.

Knitting Pictures

Here are some pics from a couple of weeks ago. Can you believe the size of the slippers. Barb told us her son in-law has big feet. Sharon brought in her bag that had some of her finished projects. Adrienne is working on a "Irish" scarf for her Mother in-law for St. Patrick's Day.

Pictures Part 2

About 6 of us got together yesterday, visiting and knitting.

Here are some pictures of projects the knit gals are working on and/or have finished.

Send those web and/or blog sites to me and I'll list them on our blog for references.

Here We are Part 1

Last week, I took a couple of pictures and shame on me I did not get them posted.

We are all working on different things right now. Many of us are attempting (and I use this word loosely) to complete our "unfinished projects" or we are getting ready for Christmas and hoping to finish them before Christmas.

So I am sharing a couple of these pictures for our enjoyment. And yes that is Denise giving me the stink eye!!!!

How We Came to Be

Well, where do I begin, one to two years ago some of us did not even know each other. Who would of ever thought something like knitting would bring us together. We started taking classes together and then we decided to start getting together once a week at our local yarn shop (Auburn Needlework's), which is located in the town where we live. We come from various backgrounds and walks of live, nursing, artists, teaching, hair-stylists, law enforcement, corp world, raising families, mothers, grandmother's and retiree's. We even have 3 ladies who have the same first name. So they are known as #1, #2 and #3.

A set of knitting needles and yarn brought us all together. You must know that knitting needles come in various styles, some are wood, metal, plastic, straight type, circulars, kits and we knit in different styles as well. Some knit the traditional way and other of us knit in what is called continental style. Our level of knitting is as varied as well. Yarn, oh my, where do I go with this subject. It can be soft, stiff, varigated, colorful, reasonbly price or expensive. We ooh and aah over different types. And sometimes we pull our hair out wondering why we even bought this particular yarn in the first place.

People who come into the place where we meet probably do not realize how newly formed our group is. We have a couple of new aquaintances who have joined us as well. The conversations we have are so varied. Since we are still in this beginner stage, we sometimes are a little hestitant on some subjects but so far we seem to be covering quite a few things to discuss. We have also discovered each one of us sometimes are dealing with a personal issue and us getting together helps us to work our way through it and/or have others understand why are moods are a little off.

Our rules are quite simple, we meet, talk about what projects we want to work on, private classes we may want to take and help each other when someone gets stuck and knit. And should someone need a "venting session" we all listen and of course we offer our opinions! We have more trouble deciding where we want to go for lunch!!!

And since we are in the summer months, some in the group who have gardens, are bringing in their veggies to share.

I look forward to our group learning's and the developing of our frienships.

I've started this blog to capture our projects, yes ladies pictures will soon follow.
